To be truly happy, you need to forgive yourself. Hence, A person who doesn’t forgive themselves continues to live in the past. (It is important to Forgive yourself)
“Forgive yourself for your faults and your mistakes and move on.”
~ Les Brown (Motivational Speaker)

According to Deepak Chopra, a person has 70,000 thoughts a day, if this is true; does it make sense for a significant amount of these thoughts be thoughts of the past, thoughts where you are unhappy with yourself? It is critical that you unburden yourself of this negativity and to move on.
It is easier said than done, I will teach you a few simple techniques to forgive yourself. First of all, you need to:
Accept that you aren’t perfect: and that you make mistakes, but you are on a journey to self-improvement.
Remember you are not a bad person: because you may have made a judgment of error and did something wrong, (cheated on a spouse, hit a child, spread a rumor about someone).See how you can seek forgiveness from that person, and how you can forgive yourself in the process
Talk to some, if it is about alcohol consider joining AA, talk to a friend, talk to an elder, talk to a therapist, frequently a third party opinion helps bring balance and therefore forgiveness

Talk to yourself, dispassionately, some refer to this as talking to your internal voice
Write down on a piece of paper what you need to forgive yourself. Symbolically burn this paper and along with it forgive yourself.
Hence, in my case, I rip this sheet into very tiny pieces and throw them out of the car window and see the confetti blow away in the rearview mirror, (needless to say, do this safely and don’t get caught for littering!!!). Thus, I appreciate the distance the speeding car makes, between myself and the mistakes that I need to forgive myself for.
